Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is an action RPG video game released in 2018, developed by Ubisoft Quebec and published by Ubisoft . It is the eleventh main branch entry, the twentieth overall in the Assassin’s Creed series, and the successor to 2017’s Assassin’s Creed Origins . Set in 431 BC, the game features a fictional history of the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta . Players control a male or female mercenary ( Ancient Greek μίσθιος misthios ) who fights on both sides as they try to save their family and uncover an evil cult.

The game was released internationally for Microsoft Windows , PlayStation 4 , Xbox One , and (exclusively in Japan) for Nintendo Switch on October 5, 2018, and a version for Google Stadia was released later in 2019. It was praised for its open world system, graphics , combat, story and characters, but was criticized for repetitiveness , microtransactions and for feeling oversaturated.
